AVG Free edition discontinued??

Is it true??since 15 january 2007 we can only use AGV if we pay gor a licence?? or it is just an update of the program and the version 7.5 will still provide a free edition??

No, the AVG Free Edition is not going to be discontinued. What will be discontinued is AVG Free Edition 7.1 because version 7.5 is coming out in January of 2007. The program will still be free.
Yes it is still free. Only the old version was discontinued. Alternatively you could use Avast which also has a good free version.
No, it's just the 7.1edition will be discontinued, replaced by the 7.5

What is a good antivirus program out there to use?

I purchased a used computer about 10 months ago and the guy had put Norton Antivirus on it before I bought it. It is now up for renewal and I don't know if I should renew it or not. Is having an antivirus necessary? What are some good programs? Are there any out there that are free to use? Should I stay with the Norton Antivirus? Please help me....I only have 6 more days left with this antivirus left.

Having an up to date anti-virus is very important (it only takes 2 minutes on average for your computer to be compromised). Norton is bloatware and I would not recommend it at all. If you want to pay for an anti-virus Kaspersky is the best. If you want a free anti-virus I recommend in order of popularity, but I leave the decision to you (install only one):

1. AVG Free

a. A simple interface

b. Can detect about 82.82% of viruses

Cons: low virus detection

2. Avast!

a. Real-time protection

b. It has an option to delete a virus once found

c. Can detect about 87.46% of viruses.

Cons: Too many icons and confusing user interface

3. Avira AntiVir

a. It can detect malware better than Avast and AVG

b. It's cute umbrella icon

c. Can detect about 94.26% of viruses

nod 32 is useless...... if ur system can handle the heavy load then go in for norton........ avast and avg are very light antivirus so u can try them.

So I have this antivirus site that keeps popping up....?

Yesterday my licence ran out on my antivirus. (Yeah, I know, I was dumb, I should have down-loaded my free BT version beforehand). Any hoo ... this ''buy our antivirus'' site keeps popping up - saying I've got a Trojan horse, and it has installed a toolbar on my computer. I've now installed my FREE version from BT, but I think it's too late. Just now, as I was writing this question, a not very nice site popped up (I hesitate to write the word but ladies and gentlemen naked together!) I have emailed the site and said ''quit it'' but to no avail. Anybody got any great ideas? Thanks!

That sounds like adware. I suggest you download Ad-Aware SE and Spybot S%26D (they鈥檙e free), install them, update them and run them. If any of the above don't seem to be able to get rid of everything it reports finding, try running it again, this time in Safe Mode. Safe Mode often prevents the malware from running and protecting itself.

Also, turn off System Restore to evict any copies of bad stuff that might be lurking there.

To get into Safe Mode:

1.Log out and reboot your machine.

2.When the machine starts the reboot sequence, press the F8 key repeatedly.

3.Select Safe Mode from the resulting menu.

4.The machine will continue booting, but the Windows desktop will look different. You won't be able to see the Internet, for instance. Log in as Administrator. Administrator often has no password.

That looks like a solid combination and I can't imagine any conflicts; the only thing that *may* be bothersome is the Defence Plus itself. Seems to be real naggy.

Raptor Defence Plus is a scam. It's what's known as rogue antispyware. You may prefer A-squared or Spybot
it will not crash / clash usually, if it does then don't use them at the same time.
